About the Opportunity
Singapore’s newest integrated acute and community hospital with 1000 beds providing broad-based medical care to the community, is seeking a suitably qualified Consultant Microbiologistto provide clinical leadership for the Medical Microbiology section within the Laboratory Medicine and Pathology service.
The appointed individual will play a key role in developing microbiology services in a new healthcare facility, including the possibility of future implementation of total laboratory automation.

Key Responsibilities
- Provide holistic, patient-centred care across both inpatient and outpatient settings
- Lead multidisciplinary healthcare teams and collaborate closely with colleagues to deliver high-quality care
- Participate in intra- and interdepartmental projects and committees
- Teach and mentor undergraduate and postgraduate students, as well as other healthcare professionals
- Undertake additional duties as assigned by the Head of Department
- Be responsible for the following areas:
Clinical Leadership & Oversight
- Provide clinical oversight of the Biochemistry and Point-of-Care Testing sections of the laboratory
- Interpret complex biochemical results and provide clinical consultation to medical teams
- Ensure timely and accurate reporting of laboratory results
- Participate in clinical case discussions and multidisciplinary team meetings
- Provide expert advice on test selection and clinical correlation
Quality Management & Compliance
- Help ensure laboratory compliance with local regulations and internationally recognised accreditation standards
- Participate actively in quality assurance programmes and continuous improvement initiatives
- Implement and monitor quality control measures across laboratory operations
- Contribute to policy development and standard operating procedures
- Support internal and external audit processes
Laboratory Operations
- Demonstrate strong working knowledge of laboratory operations and apply this to daily practice
- Oversee workflow optimisation and ensure efficient laboratory processes
- Collaborate with laboratory management on service development and enhancement
- Monitor laboratory performance metrics and implement improvements as needed
Professional Collaboration
- Demonstrate excellent teamwork and communication skills in all interactions
- Participate in institutional or departmental committees as required
- Work collaboratively with laboratory staff, clinicians, and other healthcare professionals
- Contribute to a positive and supportive work environment
Professional Development & Education
- Take advantage of opportunities to excel in Clinical Research, with institutional support for research initiatives
- Pursue educational opportunities and contribute to teaching programmes
- Engage in continuing professional development activities
- Mentor junior staff and trainees as appropriate

Requirements
- Basic medical qualification (e.g., MBBS or equivalent)
- Recognised postgraduate Specialist training with Qualification, such as: MMed (Singapore), CCT (UK), Fellowship from Australia or New Zealand, FRCPC (Canada) or Fellowship of the Hong Kong Academy of Medicine (FHKAM), American Board Certification
- Eligibility for registration as a Specialist with the Singapore Medical Council (SMC) and Specialist Accreditation Board (SAB)
- Resilient and adaptable, with a willingness to contribute to service development in a dynamic environment
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced setting
- Strong command of spoken and written English
Benefits
- 2-year renewable contract
- Annual salary range: SGD $240,000 – SGD $350,000 (depending on specialty and years of experience)
